Six months ago I came home and told my husband I was planning to quit my stable, well paying job and open up my own direct primary care clinic. “That sounds great, honey. I’ve got some ideas”, he said. And he did. We did. We had lots of ideas. Ideas that have been spinning non-stop in my brain since the inception. We jumped right into implementing those ideas, but then COVID hit. COVID took up all of our mental space and COVID stole our time. The electronic health record my husband set out to write had to go on a back burner. The spreadsheets, marketing and account set ups that my husband was to help me with fell to me alone. COVID made us re-evaluate everything. COVID threw my work and home life off kilter. COVID had me weighing once again my loyalty to my patients against my loyalty to my family. All the weighing and re-focusing just re-inforced my love for both.
Here we are 6 months later. My girls helped me daydream up logos and clinic designs. My husband and kids accompanied me on various expeditions to look at office spaces, pick up used office furniture and even score a Nespresso machine for the waiting room. My husband and I developed the website together. I opened up social media accounts. This is the fruit of our labor thus far. We are live for enrollments at DawnMD. We are on schedule to open in full on September 1, and I plan to see continuity patients as soon as July. Check out the rest of the website to learn about the practice. Reach out if you have questions, and help us reach our goal of providing better primary care by enrolling.
